Effin’ Good Food in Hong Kong part 1

If there’s one thing people love about Hong Kong aside from shopping… It’s their food. It’s impossible not to gain weight while you’re in this country. With such a small city, it can be overwhelming to see a lot.. and I mean A LOT of restaurants sprouting everywhere in the streets of Hong Kong. You don’t have to spend a lot to eat delicious food in Hong Kong.

Here are some restaurants I went to during a short visit in Hong Kong:

Yung Kee Restaurant

Yung Kee is one of the most popular restaurants in Hong Kong.  It has been awarded with a star by Michelin Guide, the best known restaurant guide in the world. It is recommended to make a reservation when dining in Yung Kee as this place can always be full during the peak hours of lunch and dinner.

Dad, Mom and I decided to eat at Yung Kee during our first day. We had:

¼ Roast Goose (around $130 HKD)

Roast goose is the house specialty of Yung Kee. I was pretty sure that every time I looked at the other tables, there was a plate of goose on top. It was indeed very delicious and tasty. Not minding the oil dripping, I kept on eating until I had the last piece. I ate so much goose since Mom and Dad can only eat so much.. Ha! The perks of eating out with older people! ;)

Garoupa Fillet with Black Fungus Ears ($280 HKD)

This dish was quite expensive. Dad never got over the fact that this cost him $280 HKD. Hahaha.  However, we all liked it especially my Mom. The Black fungus ears were really soft and fragrant and we could tell that the fish was very fresh!

Noodles with Shrimp Wanton

I forgot the price of the wanton soup but boy, the serving was small. It was just good for one person. It was really good especially the shrimp wantons. The aroma of the shrimp comes out even more while munching it. Our only complaint about this is that the wantons were ridiculously tiny.

Stir Fried Vegetables:

There was nothing special about this dish, so it’s not really worth ordering. I wish we had Char Siu instead L

Dining at Yung Kee was a great but expensive experience. My dad paid for a total of $680 HKD for three persons. It’s a restaurant you’d love to go back to once in awhile or during special occasions. I personally would love to go back to eat their Roast Goose again.

Delicious Kitchen

Delicious Kitchen is one of my favorite casual restaurants in Causeway Bay Area. A lot of Filipino-Chinese tourists are familiar with this place. I love DK because the food here is very affordable, tasty and can literally fill your tummy with just one order of rice topping.

DK is insanely famous for their Double Pork Rib with Steamed vegetable rice. Their Pork Rib has a sweet and salty taste and the pork is very tender. The vegetable rice (Pechay) is just so good you would barely even noticed that you’ve already ate it all. I don’t know what ingredients they put in their veggie rice that makes it so yummy. This dish is very affordable at $44 HKD (estimate).

Soup with Vegetable Dumplings

I love dumplings in general. But what I love more about dumplings in HK and particularly in DK is the very fine and smooth texture of their wanton wrappers. It literally melts in your mouth and the vegetables inside the dumplings were succulent.  It was just heavenly! Another plus for this dish: Bigger dumplings contrary to Yung Kee’s teeny weeny dumplings!

Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet

The picture alone looks enticing already. This had more of the sour taste and I like it that way. The fish didn’t have the fishy smell so we enjoyed this dish.
