Effin’ Good Food in HK part II

Pho Vietnamese Cuisine:

For our last dinner, we were supposed to have dinner at Din Tai Fung located in Regal hotel Causeway bay, but when we got there the line was just crazy and it was impossible for us to wait because we were already starving!

We had fried spring rolls for starters. It was very crispy, and it had shitake mushrooms, vermicelli, ground pork inside. The ingredients blended very well. It was delish.

My mom and dad ordered grilled pork chop and chicken fillet and seafood noodle. My parents are not really a big fan of meat but loved the pork chop till the last bite. They were raving about it because it was very tender and flavorful. They also liked the seafood noodle soup because it contained mostly shrimps!

For dinner, I had Pad Thai. The serving has HUGE. I wasn’t able to finish the whole thing because I was stuffed already. It was good though. It was more spicy than sweet, and contained a lot of sliced chicken and shrimps. The noodles weren’t the usual flat noodles for pad thai, it was thinner but it was very chewy.

For $200+ HKD, we were so full already. It was pretty cheap, yet it did not compromise the quality of the food.

Hui Lau Shan

Many years back, I did not know about this dessert paradise in Hong Kong. I would often pass by the street across Sogo and notice a long line of people ordering cold drinks mostly of color yellow.  I didn’t quite understand why people would be that patient for some drink that looked like mediocre fruit drinks to me.

One time my dad and I got curious about all the fuzz in this place so we decided to try it out. And as they say, the rest was history. Hui Lau shan has become my top dessert place in Hong Kong. My day in Shopper’s paradise won’t be complete without stopping by this tiny place before going back to the hotel.

Although they have numerous choices for dessert drinks, my favorite among all is the Mango and Coconut juice with jelly and mango topping. The price is approximately $20+ HKD. I would trade Starbucks Coffee and even Coffee Bean for the price. The mangoes were fresh and it wasn’t too sweet, the jelly was soft and the coconut milk was creamy.  I think people love HLS because it is a good alternative if you are looking for a healthy dessert.

Other must try in HLS:

Turnip Cake in XO sauce

I can eat 2 orders of this alone. The radish cake with XO sauce is one of the best I’ve ever tasted. I love their XO because you can see real scallops in the bowl. A bit spicy but I don’t mind it at all.

You can visit Tsim Tsa Tsui (across Kowloon Park), Causeway Bay (Across Sogo), Mongkok (beside cotton on) or North Point to try HLS.

Just a tip: if you want to save up a little bit, you might want to try HLS in North Point, it’s a bit cheaper there.

Hong Kong is a great place to explore food especially with family or friends. It is something you will want to go back to. I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last time I will be writing on restaurants in HK because there are still so many blog worthy restaurants in that place!
