Chicken Charlie (N.S. Amoranto Sr. Ave. formerly known as Retiro)
Heard about this place from a friend and I actually planned to drop by this weekend. Apparently, I can’t friggin wait – I went there last night with a couple of friends to try their “not your ordinary” fried chicken. At first, I was thinking this would be another spin-off of the famous Sincerity Fried Chicken in Binondo, Manila. So yeah, I went there and tried it out.
Got the Charlie’s Bowl. (P59.00)
Their Value Meal – fried chicken bits on top of steamed white rice with a bit of soy garlic sauce that does not taste like your ordinary soysauce and I doubt it has Kn**r Seasoning. The chicken bits was super CRUNCHY and tasty – just perfect with rice! I could eat 2 orders of this, seryoso.
Next up, their Potato Fries. (P49.00)
What I like with this one is that it uses real potatoes and its also great with ketchup. haha
and the main course, 8pcs. Drumsticks (P375.00)
Again, nothing like Sincerity’s Chicken and I effin’ LOVE it. As the owner said, Chicken Charlie’s trademark is their unique frying technique that burns out the fats of the chicken while still maintaining its juiciness inside. Also, their batter for it was quite…. amusing. It was like a shell batter that was super CRUNCHY and tasty also. Same soy garlic sauce was with it as it was with Charlie’s Bowl. Bad thing is we waited for almost 15 to 20 minutes for this but on the good part, that’s coz it was cooked right on the spot. So its fresh and CRUNCHY right on your table.
Chicken Charlie also boasts of their 0% transfat due to their unique frying technique. They also claim that their chicken stays CRUNCHY for the next couple of hours so its okay for a takeout. I’ll try to drop by there and take home a couple of boxes of 8s later
For takeouts, you can call (contact number below) them ahead of time so they can cook it in advance while you’re on your way there to pick it up!
Here are some photos of the place.
The place was quite small but their fried chicken makes up for it!
Pay them a visit. Its right in front of Tasty Dumplings – Retiro. If you still missed it, open your effin; eeeyyyeeesss.
Effin’ Rating:
FFF
3 Fs for giving us a reason to drop by Retiro, but lacks variety since their menu consists of nothin’ but “fried”.

SPORCLE: online trivia game!
This is why you're fat!!!
the chicken looks suspiciously bonchon-like (4 fingers , baby).
even the flavor selection seems the same, but can’t really say till i taste it myself.
nice work on the blog btw.
Googled it. Is it Bonchon NYC? Manhattan born Korean owner?
I also noticed their fried chicken, it does look the same with Chicken Charlie’s! Made me real curious.. I should try Bonchon! Now I only need to find the way how to get to NYC. haha! Cool stuff. Thanks for the heads up!

yup. that’s exactly it.
they have a branch here in singapore, so there’s really no need to travel to NYC. though i would think the taste might be adapted to suit the singaporean palate.
I would definitely give it a try (and hopefully make a blog) if I get the chance to go to SG in the near future. Gotta hunt me some Cebupac/Tiger Airlines promo tix.
